Dan Milnor is a photographer and explorer who has been self-publishing since the early 1990s. He also holds the title of Creative Evangelist for the print-on-demand company Blurb, Inc., and in this eye-opening two-part workshop, he provides insight on how to best approach self-publishing for personal and professional needs.
The first session entails a lecture and presentation, where Dan offers tips on strategically utilizing the wide range of self-publishing options available today—while enjoying yourself in the process. He walks participants through formats, software, and pricing variables for projects of all sizes, from books to zines and beyond. He also shares an assortment of case studies that illustrate the methods and benefits of self-publishing as it pertains to a variety of authors.
During session two, Dan gives a short presentation about page and cover design, examining the variety of options available for typography and materials. He then takes participants through the ins and outs of two indispensable programs from Blurb: BookWright and the Adobe InDesign plugin.
You come away with a solid understanding of basic self-publishing options and, more importantly, with an increased appreciation for the print medium and its strategic (not to mention entertaining!) role in the life of a modern creative.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.
For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for two weeks after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after two weeks to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
