Nick Rapaz first came to Santa Fe Photographic Workshops as a participant in 2002, and later joined The Workshops staff as studio manager. From there, he moved to New York to serve as first assistant to Platon. As an established freelance first assistant, lighting tech, and lighting director, Nick's light meter has been in the face of everyone from Muammar Gaddafi to Michelle Obama to Oprah Winfrey. His unique knowledge and perspective comes from close to a decade working with many of the best fashion and portrait photographers in New York, including most recently, the legendary Ruven Afanador. Since leaving Ruven this spring, Nick has been building his own shooting career, working out of his studio in Brooklyn. Nick has been published in Harper’s Bazaar, The Sunday Times, The New Yorker online, and Relapse Magazine and he regularly works for famed fashion designers Reem Acra and Rodarte. This is Nick’s fifth year teaching at The Workshops. His website is www.rapaz.com.
