Long-Term Personal Photography Projects with Evgenia Arbugaeva

Event Date: Sat, November 19, 2022 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM MST

Santa Fe Workshops’ collection of free online events, Creativity Continues features London-based documentary photographer Evgenia Arbugaeva shows her personal projects and talks about finding the story to researching and connecting to her protagonists and the communities she photographs. Evgenia also discusses the practical aspects of her projects such as planning, working on financing the project and, importantly, persevering and keeping the commitment to her ideas and goals. She also shares her creative process of collecting inspirations and references for each project.

Evgenia Arbugaeva grew up in the seaport town of Tiksi on the shore of the Laptev Sea in the Siberian Arctic and is now based in London. Her work is often located within the tradition of magical realism, and her approach combines documentary and narrative styles to create images rooted in real experience but resonant with fable, myth, and romanticism.

Evgenia is a recipient of the ICP Infinity Award and Leica Oskar Barnack Award. She is a National Geographic Society Fellow. Her work has been exhibited internationally and appeared in such publications as The New Yorker, The Guardian, Time, and National Geographic, among many others.

Creativity Continues is a way to connect, encouraging expression, and is a collective way to develop creative voices. The goal is to engage all within our creative community. We encourage extending invitations and sharing Santa Fe Workshops’ Creativity Continues events with any whom express an interest.
